Netflix vs. Hulu

Netflix and Hulu are two of the most popular streaming services available today. And although they share a lot of similarities, they are also quite different. So the question is which one is better?

Netflix is an American media service provider and production company founded in 1997 by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in Scott Valley, California. It has over 161 million paid membership in over 190 countries.

Hulu, on the other hand, is a US-based subscription video-on-demand service fully controlled and majority-owned by Walt Disney, founded in 2007. It has 30.4 million subscribers in the United States.

Price

Netflix’s plans vary from $9 to $16 per month depending on your desired video quality. SD resolution is just $9 but you can only stream on one device at a time. HD quality will cost you $13 per month for two streams and 4K Ultra HD will cost you $16 per month for four streams at a time. 

Hulu’s plans start at $6 for the ad-based service or $12 for the ad-free option. Hulu with Live TV has 60+ cable channels and cost you $55 per month.

Winner: The winner of Netflix vs Hulu price goes to Hulu. Netflix offers a great price but Hulu with Live TV and $6 per month wins the deal.

Content Library

Netflix has about 100,000 movies and TV shows and the list gets bigger and bigger every day. Some of the Netflix originals include:

• Marriage Story

Hulu has about 1657 shows and 2500 movies in their library which is not much compared to the Netflix library but a very good point about Hulu is that whichever shows get aired on TV today, will be available to be streamed tomorrow. There is actually no waiting like Netflix. But, unlike Netflix, Hulu doesn’t allow you to save videos for offline viewing.

To conclude this feature, I believe that Netflix’s huge library and its ability to save videos for offline viewing makes it the winner.

Other Considerable Differences

Hulu is only available in the US but Netflix is available in most countries. 

Netflix has started pushing aside the existing shows it has hosted in favor of promoting its own originals. However, the new Disney+ platform is an upgrade option at Hulu that began in November 2019.

Hulu offers 4 add-on channels. With each, you get the full catalog of all their original content. Over on Netflix, there aren’t any content add-ons.

Conclusion

The winner is Netflix and it is still the king of the streaming world. But Hulu also offers unique benefits and is improving every day. The good news is that Wachee supports them both.
